"When we compare the ruins of Baalbek with those of many ancient cities which we visited in Italy, Greece, Egypt and other parts of Asia, we cannot help thinking them the remains of the boldest plan we ever saw attempted in architecture."

- Robert Wood, English historian (1751)

Majestic in person, pictures cannot do it justice. Unlike many of the Roman ruins in Italy or Greece, this is not touristic at all. Therefore, once you enter the compound, you are free to walk around and explore.

Unfortunately, on my way to the airport. Back to Chicago for 12 days. Will write up the Iranian trip summary to kill some time on the 15 hour flight.
